Q The green LED on my VESDA detector is not working. I have checked the Power Supply and everything is OK. Is my detector faulty?
A Some VESDA detectors such as the VLP-400 have a simple twin LED display in place of the full bargraph display. These simple displays are called FOK displays which stands for Fire & OK. The green LED is the OK LED and will extinguish on ANY fault on the VESDA Detector. You will require a suitable programming device to find and rectify the fault.

Q I had a filter fault on my VESDA detector. I've replaced the filter but the fault is still present.
A The VESDA brand of detectors keep a dust particle count for the filter. When the filter becomes too dirty, a fault is displayed. When a filter is replaced the dust count needs to be reset with a suitable programming tool.

Q When installing my pipe, do the fittings just push fit together?
A NO. All joints should be glued with the correct type of adhesive. The only exception is where the pipe enters the detector, this should NEVER be glued.

Q What is the maximum area a single VESDA detector can cover?
A The VESDA detector range covers various size areas. The maximum size allowed for a single zone to BS5839 is 2000 sq.m. The VESDA LaserPLUS or LaserSCANNER detectors will handle up to this size area.

Q I have used VESDA detectors before and they were too sensitive.
A The old style VESDA detectors such as the E70D were manufactured as high sensitivity devices. The Laser range have variable sensitivity and can be made extremely sensitive or a lot less sensitive than a standard smoke detector.

Q Are VESDA detectors expensive?
A No not really. The VESDA brand of detectors were the first to be invented and are the market leading type of aspirating smoke detectors. They are comparable in price to other manufaturers brands who may market theirs a little bit cheaper to try and compete.

Q My VESDA detector has a Flow Fault do I just "normalize" it?
A NO! Normalizing a pipe tells the detector that this is the normal amount of air flow running through the pipe. You must find what has changed in the pipe configuration since it was last normalized and rectify it.

Q Can any Fire Alarm Company buy VESDA detectors?
A Yes. As with any type of Fire Alarm equipment you must know what you are doing. Training courses are available if required.

Q What software do I need to configure a VESDA detector?
A VSC (VESDA System Configurator) is the latest software that is used to configure and monitor a VESDA detector. Vconfig Basic and Vconfig PRO are now obsolete. You can download the latest version of VSC from this web site.

Q What version of Windows is required to run VSC?
A VSC is designed to run on Windows XP. It will also run on Windows Vista, however it may need to be run as an "administrator". Please refer to Windows Vista help on how to do this. VSC will not run on Windows 98 or below.
